bio
pir8-x is a Toronto-based indie songwriter and self-styled “technomancer” – in the early 00s he thought he was inventing “live PA” real-time techno remixing, and this was what he called it. He performed at local venues and parties with software he programmed himself, using skills acquired while working as a composer at indie Toronto game development studio Pseudo Interactive. His first full-length album “Metamorphoses” consisted mostly of instrumental electronica tracks – originally written for a video game title that was ultimately cancelled.
From 2009 until the present, pir8-x has been ½ of Toronto-based indie alt-electronica duo Sweet Baby Kill. He plays keys, guitar, backup vox, and laptop at the live shows, and co-writes and co-produces. (He no longer programs the software
– Ableton Live has caught up!) The pair have released three singles at iTunes and a couple of indie videos.
Recently pir8-x has not produced any solo music, but has started releasing live song demos on YouTube of some of his back-catalog of much-less-electronic-sounding, back-to-basics songwriting. There are plans to produce and release an EP of this material eventually, but no dates have been announced.
